Badal Majumdar

Date of Birth: 9th June 1954.

Qualification: In 1982 I completed a Five Years Diploma from Govt. College of Art and Craft. Agartala, Tripura.

Something about Me:
In 1983 I went to Ahmedabad and fortunately I met the famous Architect Sri Nimish Bhai Patel. After seeing my college works, He advised me to do the on-location sketches of Old Heritage Buildings of Ahmedabad. And
that is the starting of my on-location sketches of Old and Heritage Buildings and still today I am doing the same.

Apart from that I am doing Watercolor, Oil and Acrylic colour Paintings too.

In 1986 I joined Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Kasturba Road, Bangalore. On Sunday and holidays I used to go around the M. G. Road, Shivaji Nagar, City Market and other parts of Bangalore City.
I saw lots of Old and Heritage Buildings throughout Bangalore City. Then I started on-location Sketching of old and Heritage Buildings of Bangalore. I did more than a hundred sketches of Bangalore City. And still I am
doing it. Apart from that I did Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Cubbon Park and IIM Bangalore Campus.

Some of my sketches have been featured in the acclaimed ‘The Raj Bhavan Karnataka -Through The Ages’, an illustrative publication sponsored by The Raj Bhavan, Karnataka, tracing the history of the building over the
last 150 years.

In 2021 Artist, Art Historian and Art Critic Shri Suresh Jayaram Sir had authored a book, ‘Bangalore’s Lalbagh – Chronicle of the Garden and the City’. Published by Visual Arts Collective Trust (VAC), also have
featured some of my Sketches from Lalbagh series.

In 2023 another Book, the “A Gardener and a Gentleman : Rao Bahadur H C Javaraya” written by MeeraIyer also featured my four sketches of Lalbagh series in that book.

‘The Manasa Light Age Foundation’, a non-profit charitable trust, published a calendar featuring my sketches.

The IIT Kharagpur Alumni Association of Bangalore had given my 10 Heritage Building Sketches prints as a Memento to their distinguished guest.

I also did on location Sketches of Beautiful Heritage Buildings and Famous Temples of my Home State Tripura.

Workshop:
In the year 2015 I gave a three days Demonstration (17th,18th &19th April, 2015) Workshop on HeritageBuilding Sketches” at NGMA, Bengaluru. The workshop was organized by the National Gallery of modern
Art, Bangalore chapter on the occasion of “World Heritage Day”.

Camp:
In 2015 I participated in a four days camp at ‘Century Club’ Bangalore organized by the ‘Bhartiya VidyaBhavan’,Bangalore, on Century Club’s Centenary Celebration.
