Dr. Swapnaja Ashish Mohite

Being a marine biologist and a scuba diver, I love the sea, the underwater world and the mysteries beneath the sea. This has a deep impact on my paintings. I am a poetess, writer with two novels to my credit, a columnist for news papers and I work as a scientist in fisheries field. But I do find solace in my world of beautiful colours. I am a self taught artist, learning through my experiences. My paintings are like a dialogue between the artist and the medium, the canvas and the universe. I am sure that my colours would take you to a different world…world of imagination…..world of magic and mystery, where words don’t exist and emotions take over.

While pursuing my career in Fishery science, I still kept my passion for painting alive. I started with water colours but gradually shifted to acrylics and now these have become my “medium of expression”. My passion for experimenting with colours has taken me on a long journey of almost twenty years and now I confidently work with sensitive medium like alcohol inks and resin, with equal ease. My paintings are abstracts where one can let his/her imagination loose and enjoy! Fluid painting is my favourite way of creating magic on my canvas. I am also one of the featured artists for my work in alcohol inks by the renowned company, Beyond inks from Bangalore, India.

I have exhibited my paintings in ten  exhibitions and have exhibited my paintings at prominent galleries like Nehru Art Gallery, Mumbai; Kala Academy, Goa, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Kala Dalan and Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery, Pune.  I am one of the Indian artists selected for 4th Survival Art Festival that was held at CAM Museum, Naples, Italy, which was held from 5th July – 6th October 2019 and my painting is on  display at the CAM museum for one year. I have also showcased her work in resin and acrylic in an unique exhibition entitled “Trisha ….. the celebration of womanhood” at Hutheesingh Visual Art Centre, Ahmadabad, Gujarat from 12th to 16th December 2019.

Recently Google has published my work in the form of e-Book which is available on Google Book store, under the Project Google Books, Arts and Culture. This e-book would be available in 149 countries.
